BKV Memorial Foundation announces its official launch and Inaugural Memorial Dinner

JERICHO, NY -- (For Immediate Release) – March 20, 2010

Today, the Board of Trustees of the Bevin Kalathil Varughese Memorial Foundation proudly announces the official launch of its organization dedicated to raising awareness of the ongoing fight against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Kalathil Varughese, led an enthused group of prominent politicians, board members and friends in the inaugural ribbon cutting ceremony, which took place in front of an audience of over 175 supporters from all over the tri-state area.

"I am extremely honored and privileged to declare the Bevin K. Varughese Memorial Foundation officially launched." said Mr. Varughese. "A little over two years ago, ALL took the life of my son Bevin, after a courageous and hard fought battle. During his own battle with cancer, Bevin and his friends created the South Asian Cancer Foundation and Swab4Bevin organizations with a goal to help distribute information and awareness. This foundation is established with goal to continue Bevin’s vision to help others like him, in the fight against Leukemia.”

Invited guest speakers at the dinner event included representatives from SAMAR (South Asian Marrow Association of Recruiters), CPAA (Cancer Patients Aid Association), and NY State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, among others.

The BKV Memorial Foundation was founded in 2009 by friends and family of Bevin Varughese, through an initial private endowment funding led by Mr. & Mrs. Kalathil Varughese.

It strives to continue the vision of our namesake, which was to raise awareness of Leukemia, especially amongst the South Asian community, and stress the importance of registering with the National Marrow Donor Program to help enable patients to find successful marrow matches. The Foundation is seeking to become a non-profit charitable organization.
